Best Clinical Child Psychology colleges in the U.S. 2024

Like traditional psychologists, clinical child psychologists help their clients work through familial issues, difficult transitional periods, and other stressors that can impact their mental health. Clinical child psychologists can also work directly with children with various developmental issues that might impact their learning and ability to communicate. This role requires professionals to be attentive and compassionate, and communicative with their clients and guardians to elicit questions or deliver appropriate feedback.

Becoming a clinical child psychologist requires a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, along with a master’s or doctorate level degree that, along with relevant clinical experience, can take 3-6 years to complete. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that opportunities in this field will grow by eight percent from 2020-2030, a much higher growth rate than other professions.

A career in clinical child psychology allows graduates to work in medical, academic, and laboratory settings depending on their track and requires a majority of time to be spent in-person working with patients.
