Career Preparation

What letter grade would you give your school on how well it prepares students for a career in the real world?

At that time, the only advantage was being taken to the TCG auditions in New York. Currently, seniors are taken to New York and L.A. where they are seen by an invited audience of agents, casting directors, and other industry VIP's, which is a HUGE plus. Networking has always been done via the Carnegie Mellon Drama Alumni Clan, both on the East Coast and West Coast, and is very helpful.

BS Computer Science, Class of 1987

My undergrad degree was 100% theoretical. They did ZERO preparation for the real world.

Students and Culture

What letter grade would you give the students/culture at your school?

4 Based on 4 Reviews
  • Alumni
    Acting, Class of 1976

CMU is a very demanding private university with extremely high standards. This is reflected in the students accepted to study there. Incoming freshmen and grad students are of a high caliber of academic achievement and excellence in their chosen field of study. There is a high attrition rate, as students must be invited to continue their studies on an annual basis. For example, I entered in a class of 60 actors and actresses, and four years later, graduated with 12 others. Very tough school!

Adequate at the time, probably better now

What overall letter grade would you give the activities/groups at your school?

3.75 Based on 4 Reviews
  • Alumni
    Acting, Class of 1976

Scotch and Soda is a musical production open to all students at the university, usually NOT dramats. There is a lively sorority and fraternity life, but I was never part of it so I cannot comment. They are less popular with students here than at many other schools.

I'm sure the answer to that is "partying". Personally I participated in intramural sports.
