There’s no doubt that technology has shaped the way news is presented and received in the 21st century, and the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications is committed to keeping up with the times. Its innovative digital laboratories include everything from a network of desktop and laptop computers to sophisticated data analysis and audio and digital video editing equipment. The College is equally committed, though, to ensuring students have the solid academic training necessary to be reliable, ethical professionals. Undergraduate studies are conducted through four departments: advertising, journalism, public relations, and telecommunication. The College also offers campus-based and online master’s programs, a joint MA/JD with UF’s Levin College of Law, and a Ph.D. in mass communication. Students often enrich their classroom studies with hands-on experiences ranging from internships in newsrooms and PR departments across the country to working on campus staples such as the Orange & Blue magazine and the Independent Florida Alligator. The College’s Division of Multimedia Properties includes seven television and radio stations, and more than 300 students work in news, sports, production, advertising, and other capacities each semester.
