A deep commitment to the physical development of young people is key to becoming a physical education teacher or coach. PE teachers and coaches are often mentors to their students; they make differences in children's lives through health, exercise, and sports. The physical education teaching and coaching program prepares individuals for various physical education and coaching responsibilities in community recreation or elementary and secondary schools. To obtain a teaching degree in this field students will study kinesiology, nutrition, athletic safety, public health, anatomy, physiology, conditioning, outdoor activities, motor skill development, and sport psychology.Healthy lifestyles are promoted as students partake in a regular program of physical activity based on their individual and group performances. PE teachers cover a variety of different activities like gymnastics, dancing, running, stretching, and other types of fitness training. Coaches are responsible for training athletes, scheduling practices, and managing equipment. It is common for coaches to teach another subject while coaching a sport part time. Both PE teachers and coaches require training in fitness and recreational safety. Athletic club director, PE teacher, athletic coach, personal trainer, cardiac rehabilitation trainer, or similar positions are all possible career choices with this degree.
