Real-world opportunities meet solid academic preparation at DePaul’s Driehaus College of Business. The school is based in Chicago’s Loop near the heart of the city’s financial district. The university maintains plenty of corporate ties, leading DePaul to rank among the nation’s top 10 for providing students with internship opportunities. Students also are encouraged to expand their horizons in the global marketplace through short-term study abroad trips. Twenty-eight percent of DePaul’s graduating class in 2013 earned a degree in business, making it the school’s most popular major. Academic divisions include accountancy and management information systems, hospitality leadership, economics, finance, marketing, management, and real estate. DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business offers a variety of master’s degree programs (including flexible evening and weekend options) and an executive doctorate in business administration. Of special note are DePaul’s undergraduate and graduate entrepreneurship programs. The annual “Launch DePaul” event gives DePaul students and recent alumni the chance to pitch their business proposals to professional investors, receive expert advice, and compete for cash prizes.

The College of Communication offers eight undergraduate programs: communication and media, communication studies, intercultural communication, journalism, media and cinema studies, organizational communication, public relations and advertising, and relational communication. DePaul also conducts seven graduate programs as well as dual options in which highly motivated undergraduates can earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in five years. The university is particularly proud of its communications faculty – professors with years of experience in some of the biggest media markets in the nation as well as scholars publishing in top journals. Adding to the experience are DePaul’s extracurricular offerings. Its student newspaper (The DePaulia) won 15 awards from the Illinois College Press Association in 2014, and Radio DePaul was named the nation’s “Best Streaming College Radio Station” by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System in 2012.

I truly enjoyed going to DePaul for the following reasons: 1. Flexibility to work with my professors and build a course curriculum that fit my academic and professional goals. My course work crossed over management, public policy, IT, and entrepreneur classes as part of the degree. This flexibility enabled me to publish a thesis on ePhilanthropy and set the foundation for my company, NPOLINK - a content management system company for non-profit organizations. 2. Superb facilities 3. Overall support system 4. Great faculty 5. Downtown and city feel. I also love DePaul’s Saint Vincentian mission to help and serve our fellow human beings.
