Career Preparation

What letter grade would you give your school on how well it prepares students for a career in the real world?

4.125 Based on 8 Reviews

    BSFS, Class of 1974

GT offers courses - free and for a charge on the Internet. They also have a strong alumni group, career counseling and often seek internships, foreign travel and other opportunities to get you out of the classrooms and into the real world. Oh, and superb guest speaker and guest lecturer program(s).

BSFS; International Politics major, Class of 2014

Georgetown is all about the internships, especially for government or international politics/economics majors. We're in DC, so we get crazy internship opportunities all year, whereas other schools can really only help you for the summer. Georgetown helps us find internships, if you choose to use the school's resources. The school also connects us to alumni and DC professionals for networking.

The school brought in leaders in the degree program area to present to the students and allow the students to network to find internships/employment opportunities

I'm an active alum of Georgetown, which is great at providing networking opportunities, webinars, etc for its alums. Georgetown is also great at preparing current students for the working world, and in particular its on campus interviewing is very well done.

Students and Culture

What letter grade would you give the students/culture at your school?

4 Based on 8 Reviews
  • Alumni
    BSFS, Class of 1974

Well - back in the day it was very much geared towards careers in Foreign Service - and a strong multi-cultural diverse student body. But with a conservative bent one might expect from a RS school - tempered with a more pragmatic Jesuit perspective.

This is a poor prompt. Be more specific.

You'll never be pushed so hard, and love it so much. Everyone is amazing, and everyone is working incredibly hard. It's a self-described work-hard-party-hard culture, and the same people you see at the party on Friday have probably been at the library all day and are running a small international security conference the next day. That said, there definitely is a culture of busyness, and you have to carve out time for reflection (or sleep) in between five classes and three meetings a day. Because at Georgetown, if you're not incredibly busy...what are you even doing?

I can't say enough about how great this community is. There are students from all over the world who come to get a Georgetown education. Campus is a ton of fun, lots of parties and of course there's basketball.

I'm been back to visit and I would give the school high marks for all the modernization initiatives they have undertaken - IMO they are a world class institution of learning.

Seriously? You want all of that answered in one question? Where did you learn to write surveys?!

Meh. It's a nice campus, but it's small and they're having trouble expanding it. The new buildings they've built recently (a student center, the science building, and the business building) are GORGEOUS and are hopefully indicative of how Georgetown plans to build in the future. The quality of your classrooms depends highly on your major, sophomore spring-onwards, because certain departments still usually use the old buildings. That said, whatever - it doesn't stop you from learning. The library is not great, but they're renovating, and it really doesn't stop anyone from studying there. We have one dining hall, which gets busy but is great for hanging out with people in freshman and sophomore year. Few people keep meal plans in junior and senior year, when we have on-campus apartments or off-campus houses.

4 Based on 8 Reviews

The rugby team and the facility were big draws - but we also had filming of the Exorcist which was great - free coffee and Danish for weeks on end - we hoped it would never end.

We have a comparatively huge number of internationally-focused organizations based on the number of students interested in those issues. That said, my perception is biased because I was in most of them. If you're business-oriented, we have an investment fund, a student-run credit union, and a consulting club. If you're interested in social justice issues, Georgetown is the place for you. We have tons of different clubs working on different issues, both within DC and abroad. And if you don't find what you want, start it. Everyone else does.

The Corp, probably. Entirely student-run company (up to CEO etc) on campus with coffee shops and grocery stores and summer storage subsidiaries.

    5 Rated January 2016
  • Alumni
    Marketing; Management, Class of 2014

The Corp is a student-run business that runs all on campus coffee shops, grocery store, and other services. We don't have Greek life, so student clubs take on a more prominent role, which is AMAZING for social life.
