How are the career opportunities for college graduates in this city?
1 Answer
  • In 2015, Forbes ranked Fort Lauderdale second on its list of “Happiest Cities for Young Professionals.” Factors contributing to the rating included growth opportunities, compensation, benefits, work-life balance, career advancement, and job security. As might be expected, tourism is among the region’s major industries. However, Fort Lauderdale continues to establish itself as one of the fastest-growing markets for global trade and is a leader in South Florida’s emerging “Internet Coast” of more than 6,000 high-tech firms.

What major companies/industries are hiring what type of graduates/skills in this city?
1 Answer
  • A diverse economy in the Greater Fort Lauderdale region leads to high demand for a variety of skillsets. Educators can find employment with the Broward County School District, Nova Southeastern University, and Kaplan. Memorial Healthcare System, Holy Cross Medical Group, and North Broward Hospital District hire health science grads. American Express and Bank of America are major financial employers. Communications giant Sun-Sentinel Co. publishes the largest-circulation newspaper in South Florida and operates WSFL-TV. Other major employers include automotive retailer AutoNation, software developer Citrix, and advertising agency Zimmerman.

Is this city more of a college town or a great place to start a career and family?
1 Answer
  • Between the great weather and the promising job opportunities, students often choose to remain in Fort Lauderdale after graduation. The city is home to more than 172,000 residents, and about a quarter of households include children. While singles may enjoy residential options near the bustling downtown area, plenty of family-friendly options exist in smaller neighborhoods, including planned communities and waterfront properties.

  • With 3,000 hours of annual sunshine, outdoor activities rule! Fort Lauderdale boasts seven miles of beaches, 31 golf courses, and the Intracoastal Waterway lined with marinas, waterfront restaurants, and nightspots. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts hosts Broadway productions as well as ballets, operas, and children’s shows. The city also is home to the Museum of Discovery and Science, the NSU Art Museum, and the Antique Car Museum.

What's the dating scene like in this city? Will I meet my perfect mate?

  • While Nova Southeastern University’s student body is heavily female, the city as a whole is relatively equal. Many singles appreciate the ethnic diversity of the area. And if your Romeo or Juliet isn’t among Fort Lauderdale’s residents, perhaps you’ll bump into him or her on the beach when throngs of bathing suit-clad singles drop by for Spring Break.
