CURRICULUM FOCUS
Oklahoma State University-Main Campus Engineering Program
UDC Contributor

When it comes to teaching people about aerospace, Oklahoma State has it covered at all levels. OSU’s aviation and space faculty are principals in NASA educational programs that help K-12 students and educators become involved with real missions and research. Aspiring pilots come to OSU to train for their FAA license while receiving a solid undergraduate education at a price that has been recognized nationally as a value. At the graduate level, the university attracts everyone from established professionals wanting to learn the latest on aerospace security to top scholars and practitioners seeking the rare doctor of education in applied educational studies with specialization in aviation and space. Students at all levels are eligible for special scholarships designated solely for aviation studies, such as the Boeing Company Aerospace Logistics Scholarship and the Bliss Family Aviation Management Scholarship. Enriching studies is OSU’s fleet of 20 aircraft, including Cessna 152’s, 172’s, 182RG’s, and Piper PA44- 180’s (multiengine). A popular extracurricular among aviation students is The Flying Aggies. This student flying club has been making a name for itself in competition against other colleges for decades. It’s no wonder Envoy Airlines (formerly American Eagle) chose to form a bridge program that gives select OSU students early access to employment opportunities with the company while pursuing a degree.

What is the campus setting like?
U 1 Answer
U Answer by: Universities.com

The 700+-acre main campus is located in Stillwater, a city in north-central Oklahoma that is about 60 miles from both Oklahoma City and Tulsa (sites of two smaller OSU campuses). The Stillwater campus features Georgian architecture among a picturesque landscape of flowers, trees, and shrubs (and even cowboy hat-shaped topiary). Structures such as Old Central -- the university’s first permanent academic building -- remind people of the university’s long history, while state-of-the-art Boone Pickens Stadium displays OSU’s progression.

What are the athletic highlights?
U 1 Answer
U Answer by: Universities.com

The OSU Cowboys and Cowgirls athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference and have enjoyed great success through the years. Under coach Henry Iba, Oklahoma State (then known as Oklahoma A&M) became the first school to win consecutive NCAA championships in men’s basketball (1945-46). Oklahoma State wrestling is the winningest program in the history of college athletics with 34 (and counting) NCAA team championships. Barry Sanders won the Heisman Trophy while playing football for OSU in 1988, and Robin Ventura set college baseball's hitting-streak record (58 games) and batted .428 during his career as a Cowboy before being drafted by the Chicago White Sox. The Cowgirls have appeared in the Women’s College World Series seven times. Two of the campus’s newest sports – women’s soccer and equestrian – are already on their way to continuing the tradition of excellence.

Is this city more of a college town or a great place to start a career and family?
U 1 Answer
U Answer by: Universities.com

Oklahoma State University and its 26,000 students give Stillwater much of its character, but the area also is a great place to establish a permanent residence. In fact, CNN/Money listed Stillwater as one of “America’s Best Small Cities.” Residents are attracted by the low cost of living, good employment prospects, and convenient shopping. Stillwater also has an interesting vibe from the intellectual atmosphere of the university to the music scene—Stillwater is the home of red dirt music – a mixture of rock, country, folk, and blues.

As the OSU marching band plays “The Waving Song” after a Cowboy touchdown, residents and students alike love to wave their right arms in the air to create an image similar to wheat blowing in the wind. Those who enjoy being active take advantage of the city’s three pickleball courts, outdoor skating and skateboarding rinks, and dog park. What's the dating scene like in this city? Will I meet my perfect mate?
U 1 Answer
U Answer by: Universities.com

At both Oklahoma State University and in the town of Stillwater, gender distribution is about equal. Your ideal match could be waiting at the next Cowboy basketball game at Gallagher-Iba Arena (also known as “The Rowdiest Arena in the Country”). Or you may bump into each other during OSU’s nine-day Homecoming celebration.
