It's a small liberal-arts college, so there is a sense of closeness and community. Students study a lot because academics are high-pressure. They attend school-sponsored events like concerts and comedians, but also have a host of other social opportunities provided by student organizations, including greek organizations.

Sociology, Class of 2014
Truman State University is known for being a "nerd" school. Academics are rigorous, but there is very little to do on campus and in the surrounding town. Thus, most people who would rather do adventurous or social things go to different universities.
