Answered by: Universities.com

The University of Alabama Birmingham has an impressive and diverse list of alumni. Professional golfer Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland won the 2010 U.S. Open after his time on the UAB golf team, where he won the Haskins Award as the top collegiate golfer. And Dr. Deidre Downs won the Miss America crown in 2005, attending the UAB School of Medicine after her term as Miss America ended.

Question
What is the campus setting like?
1 Answer
Answered by: Universities.com

The UAB campus occupies an urban setting near downtown Birmingham, occupying several dozen blocks in the Southside neighborhood. Despite being a downtown campus, UAB doesn’t feel like a campus fighting for space. The campus has a well-defined layout devoted to medical education, general areas of study, and the athletic teams, all focused around Campus Green, a central-campus park with walking paths and, obviously, green spaces. The development of Campus Green in the early 2000s was a key component for turning UAB from a commuter school into a campus with a traditional residential students and housing.

Question
What are the online learning and extension/adult learning opportunities?

Question
What are the athletic highlights?
1 Answer
Answered by: Universities.com

UAB has been a Division I NCAA member since the late 1970s, and the Blazers men's basketball program reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in just its fourth season of play in 1982. UAB's athletic program continues to have its strength in men's basketball, having upset #1 seeded Kentucky in the 2004 NCAA Tournament and having reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2015 with an upset of #3 seed Iowa State. The Blazers football program was scheduled to be dropped because of a lack of funds, but program boosters saved football with a financial commitment, and the program will return to FBS-level football in 2017.
