Best Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering colleges in the U.S. 2024

With the improvement of digital tools and software development in the 21st century, careers surrounding the assembly and programming of robots have grown exponentially. Students who earn a degree in robotics enter the workforce with in-demand skills that are applicable in the public and private sector, as well as at the federal level in both military and intelligence communities.

Robotics specialists design robots and write software that allows them to remotely operate and control the robot to perform a range of functions like walking, picking something up, or even racing with other robots. Roboticists perform a range of functions and fill technical roles that require them to bring computer engineering, physics, and software programming to a project. They need to be able to work as a team to analyze and diagnose problems that affect the functionality and goals of their current project.

A degree in robotics can lead to high-paying careers, and large tech companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Facebook employ teams that design and operate robots for military and everyday use. Companies like Boston Robotics work directly with the federal government, NASA, and Lockheed Martin to produce robots that run, jump, and even communicate with humans.

Robotics specialists need at least a four-year bachelor’s degree along with a master’s to qualify for many jobs, and may even pursue a doctorate-level program to remain competitive in the field.
