The bioengineering degree is not the study of Frankenstein’s monster, but it does apply engineering techniques – mechanical, material, and electrical – to solve problems in the biological or clinical sciences. A degree in biomedical engineering can lead to careers in developing medical devices or pharmaceuticals. This degree will include working in a science lab, and students will develop expertise in the disciplines of both engineering and health related sciences. At minimum, earning bachelor’s degree in bioengineering or biomedical engineering is a four-year commitment. Students can go farther with this degree knowledge by pursing even higher education in science or attending medical school. Bioengineering can be used in work with all levels of living organisms, from growing human tissues to helping repair damaged organs or finding a way to grow vegetables that have more nutrients.
